Seems like a pretty bland and mundane herb, right? We'll have I got news for you...!!! Not only does peppermint tea, candy, ice cream & even Peppermint Schnapps taste delicious,
but it has so many more wonderful uses and many great health benefits. It has been known to assist with many common health issues such as indigestion, hay fever, and researchers in the Middle East found that peppermint oil killed off the bacteria that causes tooth decay and plaque buildup. However, I do not recommend people use any essential oil in this way on their own, it requires a qualified holistic practitioner to advise. But certainly, using a peppermint-based toothpaste and mouthwash would be a safe and ideal alternative.
Have you ever been totally on the ball in the morning doing chores, stopped for lunch only to come back to it completely perplexed as to how to get going again? Most people will just grab a sugar filled soda or caffeine filled energy drink or even coffee with the hope it helps you snap out of it....and while it may at first all that extra sugar and caffeine does is bring your glucose and heart rate up to a very high level and then make a huge drop which makes you feel worse than before.
Those afternoon slumps hit most of us at one time or another and something as simple as a cup of peppermint tea can get you back on the productive mode you need. Peppermint is a nutrient rich very healthy drink either hot or cold and is chock full of calcium, magnesium, potassium and many other nutrients that your body must have in order to function at full capacity.
Tossing in a few sprigs of fresh peppermint into a cold glass of water with a slice of lemon or orange is an easy way to gain the benefits of this most common herb for a quick pick me up.
Growing your own windowsill or garden peppermint is extremely is an easy way to insure you always have fresh peppermint available.
Unless you are going to require copious amounts of this herb, as I do in many of my products, I would advise keeping a small pot or two in a sunny windowsill the best way to grow it. Peppermint is a fast growing and fairly invasive plant and if planted in the garden it will soon completely take over.
As you can tell I can go on and on about this herb but I will instead share a couple of recipes that are easy and ever so much better for you than most anything else you might drink.
Another simple idea to use fresh peppermint is making fresh peppermint infused ice cubes....great in most drinks.
Just plop a few sprigs of fresh and washed peppermint into your ice trays, fill with water or even juice of some type....freeze and enjoy!
